Kids are always taddle-telling on someone. This seems to be a notorious problem in my classroom. "She's not sharing the eraser", "He won't get in line", "He didn't push in his chair"...blah, blah, blah....you get the point. They just will not stop whining. But yesterday after the class came in from recess, a kid came up to me and said these girls were calling him gay. What?! I didn't even know second graders knew what that meant. He is the kinda girly type of boy....really nice and sweet handwriting, doesn't get dirty, kisses up to the teacher, keeps his hair geled to one side of his head with a little curl. But still...no need to call him gay. After he told me, the girls got really defensive and explained that they meant the OTHER gay...like happy. Then it was over. It's nice how kids can just squash things.
